CHRISTMAS IN CORK

With Santa’s countdown well and truly underway, let us take the stress out of your Christmas list!  For shopping, shows and festive fun, nowhere beats Cork at Christmas. Nowhere does it better than the 'real capital'. We have put together a list of wonderful experiences for you to enjoy during your time with us at the award-winning Montenotte Hotel.

For many people the countdown to Christmas truly begins with the switching on of the Christmas Lights, in Cork City this is no different. This year the switch on will take place on Sunday, November 18th on St. Patrick’s Street. The celebrations will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and large crowds are expected at this wonderful and very popular event for all ages. From Friday, 30th November to Sunday, 22nd December take a short  10 minute drive to ‘Glow’  which is a Cork Christmas celebration.  Soar high above Cork city on a giant ferris wheel and indulge in the festive market and entertainment on the Grand Parade this Christmas, for more information, please click here While you are there, explore the English Market. At the heart of the city this is one of the oldest covered markets in the world. Its many varied stalls have attracted millions of visitors, amongst them the Queen of England.

If you are feeling adventurous, how about some ice skating?  Wrap up warm and get your skates on!  Cork On Ice is one of Ireland’s longest-running winter events and has become a tradition for many in the Cork and the greater Munster area since opening in 2007.  Cork On Ice is located 20 minutes away on the grounds of Mahon Point Shopping Centre from November to January each season, with free onsite parking. For those possible rainy days, fear not enjoy an afternoon or evening showing of this year’s panto. Choose from Cinderella playing in The Everyman Palace,  click here or Aladdin in The Cork Opera House.  click here for more information.

MY MONTENOTTE EXPERIENCE

This Saturday, on February 1st, I ventured down to Cork for a weekend break in the picturesque and beautifully modern, Montenotte Hotel.
As they say, January is the only month with twice as many days as the rest. Maybe it’s the post-Christmas, back to reality, dark at 4pm aspect, but January really does drag. The first day of Spring was the perfect time for a trip away. Matt drove and we arrived to check-in at 2pm, bringing the total journey time to just under 3 hours.

As always, if anyone has any questions regarding the stay, please do let me know. I am always happy to answer!
All my foodie love,
Fifi
